IXA Science Ch5- Fundamental unit of life Cell Organelles)
Subject: Biology Topic: 5.4: The Fundamental Unit of Life: Cell Structure Grade: IX
Sub-topics:
Cell Organelles
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Golgi apparatus
Cell organelles are small organs of the cell responsible for
performing crucial functions and explain the reason for the formation of cell
organelles (to keep the chemical activities of different kinds of a cell separate
from each other).
single membrane bound endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus,
lysosomes, vacuoles
double membrane bound nucleus, mitochondria, plastids
Membrane less ribosomes
State that each organelle has a definite shape, structure and function and some of
these organelles are visible only with an electron microscope.
The endoplasmic reticulum also serves as
a channel for the transport of materials between various regions of the cytoplasm
or between the cytoplasm and the nucleus.
Ribosomes are the smallest known organelles which are made in the
nucleolus.
Ribosomes are made up of RNA and proteins.
Ribosomes are the sites of protein synthesis and the proteins are transported
to various places depending on the need.
Ribosomes are also found floating in cytoplasm.
