 Cell theory
 Classification of cells

Summary
What are cells?
Ans: cells are building blocks of all living things or the structural units of life
2. What does a cell represent?
Ans: a cell represents the lowest level of organisation at which life can exist
3. Cells are functional unit of life. Why?
Ans: A cell is capable of carrying out all the life functions; such as nutrition, excretion,
respiration, etc. Hence a cell is called the functional unit of life.
4. Who discovered cells?
Ans: Robert Hooke

Definition of cell: An autonomous self-replicating structure that forms the structural,
functional and biological unit of all living organisms.

Schleiden and Schwann gave the cell theory, which was
modified by Rudolf Virchow, then experimentally verified by Louis Pasteur. It was
again modified by Rudolf Virchow and Nagali. Due to a number of modifications,
cell theory is known as modern cell theory or cell principle or cell doctrine.
3. Explain about the cell theory and about the drawbacks of the cell theory such as:
 Virus, which is a connecting link between living and non-living things, cannot
be explained by cell theory
 Bacteria and cyanobacteria do not have an organised nucleus.
 Sieve tube and mature RBC do not have a nucleus.
Explain
Prokaryotic cells and  Eukaryotic cells
Unicellular and Multicellular organisms

Homework-
